L&T ushers 2024-batch engineer trainees into the corporate world Armed with their graduate and post-graduate degrees, over 2,700 youngsters walked into their dream job – as Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) and Post-Graduate Engineer Trainee (PGET) with L&T this July. They were accorded a warm welcome at the grand orientation programme hosted by L&T’s Corporate HR simultaneously in Mumbai and Chennai. The event was characterised by high enthusiasm and joie de vivre! Delivering the keynote address, L&T Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) S N Subrahmanyan gave the trainees advice that is valuable at every stage in one’s career: strengthen your roots, be persistent, have a scientific approach to life, be innovative with solutions, work as a team, graduate from school but never graduate from learning, think out of the box, focus on speed, scale and agility, encourage yourself and others, have total integrity, and remember that leadership does not depend upon size but on courage and mindset. The ‘Know Your Leader’ sessions gave the participants the coveted opportunity to interact with L&T’s senior leaders – including R Shankar Raman (President, Whole-time Director & Chief Financial Officer), Subramanian Sarma (Whole- time Director & President, Energy), S V Desai, Whole-time Director & Sr EVP, Civil Infrastructure), T Madhava Das (Whole-time Director & Sr EVP, Utilities), Anil V Parab (Whole-time Director & Sr EVP, Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves), and Executive Committee Members J D Patil, M V Satish and D K Sen. Dr C Jayakumar (EVP & Head – Corporate HR, L&T) congratulated the trainees and emphasised L&T’s core values of integrity, excellence, innovation, meritocracy, customer focus, and respect for others – pillars upon which the Company is built. The induction sessions were thorough and informative, encompassing a wide range of topics such as L&T’s history, future business strategies and corporate planning. Critical discussions covered the transition from campus to corporate life, leadership development, Company values and culture, ESG initiatives, green energy projects, CSR efforts, cybersecurity, digital transformation and personal finance. The programme equipped the trainees with the knowledge and tools necessary to embark on their professional journey. The event exemplified L&T’s unwavering commitment to its workforce, ensuring that every trainee is geared to contribute to the Company’s continued success, while setting the stage for their own professional growth.

How L&T handholds freshers in their campus-to-corporate transition Freshers come with rich academic knowledge and boundless energy to embark on the metamorphosis of professional journey. This transition from campus to corporate can sometimes be overwhelming and this is where training plays a major role in bridging the gap between campus and the corporate world. As many as 665-odd L&T freshers began their journey in July with an all- encompassing training programme hosted by the Corporate Technology & Engineering Academy (CTEA) at Mysore in Karnataka The training was focused on holistic development, adopting a comprehensive approach that encompasses various aspects of an employee’s professional growth and well-being. They were familiarised with the L&T culture, and various techniques such as concrete technology, engineering drawing, formwork & scaffolding, prestressing, precast, wastewater management, fabrication & welding, plant & machinery, etc. Alongside the classroom sessions, the trainers emphasised on hands-on training and site visits wherein the newly inducted GETs were able to acquire necessary skills and knowledge required to excel in real-world scenario. For the structural engineers from L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH) vertical, CTEA Mysore crafted a comprehensive in-house offshore technical competency development. The five-module programme has been tailored to address the specific needs of LTEH, with the training being a blend of theoretical and real-world knowledge. During the training, the participants were able to design the concepts-to-commissioning of fixed and floating offshore structures.

COVETED STATUS In another development, LTTS has earned partner-level supplier status in the John Deere Achieving Excellence Programme for the fourth year in a row. John Deere – a long-standing LTTS customer in the mobility segment – is an American manufacturer of agricultural machinery, heavy equipment, forestry machinery, diesel engines, drivetrains used in heavy equipment and lawn-care equipment. It also provides financial and related services. LTTS supports John Deere with a broad spectrum of services, including digital solutions, product simulation, embedded software development, mechanical design, and cost management analysis. The partner-level supplier status was conferred on LTTS in August. It is Deere’s highest supplier rating and reflects LTTS’s commitment to delivering high-quality products and services surpassing the expectations of its global clientele, as well as continuous improvement.

L&T’s Whole-time Director & Sr EVP – Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves, Anil Parab, chaired the first meeting of the National Capital Goods Policy 2025 sub-group on ‘Building Energy Transition and Sustainability’ hosted in New Delhi on 31 July. The sub-group, constituted by the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, discussed several crucial points in the arterial meeting. The discussions were co-led by Sureshwar Singh Bonal (Director – Ministry of Heavy Industries). The topics discussed include India’s firm focus on sustainability, support for transition, the need for awareness of sustainability-related aspects among MSMEs, supporting innovative business models focused on sustainability, identification and promotion of green players, and need for a shift towards higher electrification and renewable power. Lending their insights to the deliberations were several industry associations – the Indian Machine Tools Manufacturers Association, Plastic Machinery Manufacturers’ Association of India, Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association, Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association and the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association. High-level industry interactions, such as this one, affirm the commitment of the manufacturing community to India’s sustainable growth.
MANUFACTURING RESTRATEGISED Then, on 7 August, Parab spoke in the plenary session of CII Manufacturing Conclave 2024 hosted in New Delhi. The theme of the conclave was ‘The India Growth Story: Defining Future Readiness.’ He drew attention to the demographic advantage that could result in the young workforce transforming India into a global manufacturing hub. Also, Free Trade Agreements, Parab opined, could accelerate the shift in global value chains by reducing trade barriers and improving global competitiveness through infrastructure development, digital technology, and the ease of doing business. Referring to the importance of fast-tracking skilling efforts, he highlighted L&T’s initiatives towards upskilling, including the Construction Skills Training Institutes, Safety Innovation School and Construction Machinery Training Centres, and the Train the Trainer programmes. The session also featured Arvind Virmani (Member – NITI Aayog), Deepak Shetty (CEO & MD – JCB India) and Deepak Jain (CMD – Lumax Industries).

L&T-SuFin explores unchartered territories in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh Since inception, L&T-SuFin – India’s leading B2B e-commerce platform – has been helping micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) across India to grow. On 19 and 24 July, L&T-SuFin teams visited Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, respectively, and hosted knowledge sharing sessions on B2B market linkage for MSMEs. It was organised in collaboration with PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI). The sessions were aimed at empowering MSMEs with exposure to market, access to finance, business growth and opportunities for collaboration in the dynamic world of e-commerce. An insightful presentation on ‘Creating Efficiencies in Supply Chain Through Digitalisation for MSMEs’ was delivered. At Ranchi, the event was supported by Jharkhand Laghu Udyog Bharti, Jharkhand Small Industries Association, Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce & Industries.
