L&T’s Whole-time Director & Sr EVP – Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves, Anil Parab, chaired the first meeting of the National Capital Goods Policy 2025 sub-group on ‘Building Energy Transition and Sustainability’ hosted in New Delhi on 31 July.
The sub-group, constituted by the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, discussed several crucial points in the arterial meeting. The discussions were co-led by Sureshwar Singh Bonal (Director – Ministry of Heavy Industries).
The topics discussed include India’s firm focus on sustainability, support for transition, the need for awareness of sustainability-related aspects among MSMEs, supporting innovative business models focused on sustainability, identification and promotion of green players, and need for a shift towards higher electrification and renewable power.
Lending their insights to the deliberations were several industry associations – the Indian Machine Tools Manufacturers Association, Plastic Machinery Manufacturers’ Association of India, Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association, Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association and the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association.
High-level industry interactions, such as this one, affirm the commitment of the manufacturing community to India’s sustainable growth.
MANUFACTURING RESTRATEGISED
Then, on 7 August, Parab spoke in the plenary session of CII Manufacturing Conclave 2024 hosted in New Delhi. The theme of the conclave was ‘The India Growth Story: Defining Future Readiness.’
He drew attention to the demographic advantage that could result in the young workforce transforming India into a global manufacturing hub.
Also, Free Trade Agreements, Parab opined, could accelerate the shift in global value chains by reducing trade barriers and improving global competitiveness through infrastructure development, digital technology, and the ease of doing business.
Referring to the importance of fast-tracking skilling efforts, he highlighted L&T’s initiatives towards upskilling, including the Construction Skills Training Institutes, Safety Innovation School and Construction Machinery Training Centres, and the Train the Trainer programmes.
The session also featured Arvind Virmani (Member – NITI Aayog), Deepak Shetty (CEO & MD – JCB India) and Deepak Jain (CMD – Lumax Industries).
