    Enhancing Lives
THE SWACCH BHARAT Mission may have lost the buzz it had created in the initial years of launch in 2014 but the mandate of this initiative – crucial to public health and hygiene – isn’t lost on everyone. L&T and its business verticals are among the entities that continue to carry forward the mission, as part of shouldering corporate social responsibility.

As such, L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) has so far built as many as 90 toilets in the households of villages in Vadodara district of Gujarat. The initiative has brought about dramatic improvements as regards sanitation and hygiene practices in the beneficiary households and, in turn, helping prevent diseases. But this is not the only contribution that LTHE has made and is making to Vadodara. Rather, its CSR drive is multifaceted.

LTHE has recently built a community hall at Pavlepur village, a toilet block for the differently-abled at Vadodara’s Friends Society and has imparted skill- building training to 300-odd women hailing from five villages in the district. The toilet block at Friend’s Society is equipped with emergency bell buttons and braille signages for the visually challenged. The skill-building drive included training in stitching, tailoring, paper-bowl-making, poultry, beautician skills, etc.

In August, Mr Sudheer P V Nambiar (Head HSE, CSR & Sustainability - LTHE Onshore) handed over the community hall, the toilet block and the certificates for skill-building training to the beneficiaries.
Throughout the year, LTHE undertakes tree plantation drives and conducts health camps in remote villages. All these initiatives are part of L&T’s CSR projects, namely, Village Development Programme, Education Development Programme, Paida Ni Pathshala, the Engineering Futures Programme, and Sanitation Solutions that are enhancing lives of the disadvantaged.
