E&A’s Metering and Protection Systems Business Completes Silver Jubilee

L&T Electrical and Automation’s Metering and Protection Systems (MPS) business completed 25 years recently and to mark the occasion held a function in Mysuru. The event saw senior L&T-ites including CEO & MD Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, Mr. Amit Kumar, Head - MPS, and Mr. S.C. Bhargava, former Sr. VP, E&A, joining staffers in the festivities and applauding the efforts of all those who had made vital contributions to MPS’ success.

Welcoming everyone to the event, Mr. Amit Kumar, Head of MPS, noted that having entered the business as recently as the mid-90s, it was the team’s inner belief, passion, and the vision offered by the leadership that enabled MPS to reach the heights in such a short period of time.

The idea of solid-state electronic energy meters first came about in the 90s and L&T began manufacturing the same at Mysuru in 1994 on a small scale. However, over the next few years the business – essentially a start-up – grew rapidly and turned into a leading brand thanks to its focus on quality, customer, and continuous innovation. With MPS’ indigenously designed single phase and poly-phase meters, panel meters and relays, the business boasts of a rich experience in design, manufacturing and supply of electronic electricity meters in the Indian utilities market.

Today, L&T is a market leader with a robust design and state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with capacity of more than 1 million units per month.

Thrilled to a part of the celebrations, L&T CEO & MD Mr. S N Subrahmanyan congratulated the MPS veterans and members of the present team for their invaluable contribution. In his address, he stressed on the need to envisage new geographical boundaries, explore the potential in the allied products space and focus on new technologies to further consolidate its position as a market leader.

A number of MPS employees, retired and presently working, were felicitated during the event. The dignitaries also unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the silver jubilee year, on the occasion.
