Laurel for Low-Rise
Constructed by L&T’s Buildings & Factories (B&F) arm, the Biotechnology & Bio Medical Engineering (BTBME) building of IIT Hyderabad’s (IITH) has earned recognitions at the prestigious American Concrete Institute (ACI) Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards 2023.
 
The building has been placed First at the national level and Second at the global level in the ‘Low-Rise Structures’ category.
 
Mr A T Lakshmanan (Cluster Project Manager – Chennai & Hyderabad, B&F) and Mr H S P Shukla (Project Director – IITH project, B&F) received the award from ACI Chairman at an awards ceremony in Boston in October 2023.
 
Inspired by a DNA molecule, the building was inaugurated in November 2022. It has a built- up area of 8,552 sq m, housing four biotech and biomedical wings, 23 research laboratories, and five computer labs.
 
This distinguished honour from ACI affirms L&T’s strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and the highest standards of concrete construction.

L&T Finance (LTF) has been awarded an ESG Risk Rating of 16.5 by Morningstar Sustainalytics. It recorded an increase in percentile industry rank – 11 as compared to 17 earlier. This affirms LTF’s position in the low-risk category.
 
This improved rating underscores LTF’s commitment to sustainable practices and business conduct, spearheaded by its dedicated ESG team and valued stakeholders.
 
Morningstar Sustainalytics is a leading independent ESG and corporate governance research, ratings and analytics firm. They measure the magnitude to which a company is exposed to ESG risks and how well that company is managing such risks by way of categorising them across risk levels, i.e., Severe (40+), High (30-40), Medium (20-30), Low (10-20) and Negligible (0-10).

Safety Eleven
 
Eleven project teams across L&T Construction have scaled the summit of EHS performance by scoring handsomely in the British Safety Council’s Five Star Audits and winning the much-coveted Sword of Honour.
 
All these projects – 8 from Buildings & Factories, 2 from Water & Effluent Treatment, and 1 from Railways vertical – ticked the usual EHS boxes of developing and maintaining a robust safety culture, ensuring buy-ins from all stakeholders, involving senior leadership in the EHS process and driving continuous improvement.

LTIMindtree earns twin recognition for customer satisfaction and a disability-friendly workplace
 
Whitelane Research an independent entity focused on IT sourcing studies across Europe, has ranked LTIMindtree (LTIM) second in customer satisfaction in the 2023 IT Sourcing Study for Germany. LTIM’s overall customer satisfaction score of 80% is well above the industry average of 74%.
 
The survey also ranked LTIM first on service delivery quality and second on transformative innovation. LTIM was also one of the two companies with 5% or more above average score across all the four KPIs for the survey – transformative innovation, account management, service delivery and price level.
 
The study, comprising more than 245 participants from the top IT spending organisations in Germany, has evaluated over 700 unique IT sourcing relationships and 800 cloud sourcing relationships.
 
ASSOCHAM has conferred LTIM the first runner-up award for Employer for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The award, given at ASSOCHAM’s 4th Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Awards and Conclave, recognises initiatives in promoting inclusion of PwDs within the workplace and beyond.
 
Inclusion is felt in various ways – day-to-day interactions, person-to-person connections, inclusive workspaces (including foldable stretchers, motorised wheelchairs, evacuation chairs, specially-designed washrooms), inclusive digital spaces (e.g., a WCAG2.1 Level AA compliant website), sensitisation programmes, neurodiversity, disability sensitisation courses, WFH, etc.
 
Sensitisation:  LTIM  regularly  conducts awareness programmes on disability to build a more inclusive environment and enable teams to craft inclusive practices in their functions, while integrating people with disabilities.
 
Neurodiversity: LTIM creates awareness about and normalising the differences in thinking and behaviour. It conducts workshops on MSWord Accessibility focused on best practices in creating documents that persons with vision impairment can easily assimilate.
 
The company also runs an awareness course on Disability Sensitisation encompassing an understanding of disability, types of disabilities, and about the appropriate language while interacting with a person with disability.
 
Depending on their actual need, LTIM allows persons with disabilities to opt for a full-time work-from-home if they so desire.

Medals in MENA
Two projects executed by L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) Middle East arm and a project executed by L&T’s Minerals & Metals (M&M) vertical won the prestigious Middle East Economic Digest (MEED) Project Awards 2023.
 
The MEED Awards honour the best projects in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, adjudged for innovation, sustainability and the overall impact on society. The three projects for which L&T won the awards are:
  • 400 kV OHL Suwaiyhat–Barik–Nahadah – OETC, Oman Power Transmission Project of the Year – MENA level as well as national level (Oman) – PT&D
  • DS217-132 kV MOLJWRSN Substation Project – Dubai Municipality, UAE, Power Transmission Project of the Year – national level (UAE) – PT&D
  • Best Transport Project 2023 – Etihad Rail
    Freight Facilities Project (UAE) – M&M
 
In another development, L&T received the ‘Infrastructure Project of the Year’ award from Construction Week Middle East, once again, for the Etihad Rail Freight Facilities Project executed by the M&M vertical.
 
These prestigious awards affirm L&T’s project management capabilities and construction excellence in delivering mega projects.

L&T (Oman) LLC won two coveted awards at the 11th Dossier Construction Awards 2023 hosted at Muscat  in  November.
 
L&T was declared ‘Best Construction Contractor of the Year’ for various Buildings & Factories (B&F) and Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) projects, and ‘Best HSE Initiative’ award in connection with its ‘each one plant one’ initiative.
 
The L&T Oman team – comprising Mr Musalam Hassan Al Balushi (Head – HR), Mr G Ramasubbu (Chief Execuitive), Mr T Sadeesh Niranjan (CFO), Mr V Srinivasan (Head – Operations, B&F), Mr K N Bhat (Head – Operations, PT&D), Mr S Baskaran (Head – QMS), Mr H D Jagam (Head – HSE) and Mr Faisal Al Busaidi (Manager – HSE) – received the awards.
 
The Chairman of Muscat Municipality, Mr Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al Humaidi, was the chief guest at the awards ceremony.
 
Dossier is Oman’s first business-to-business (B2B) publication on construction, infrastructure, and real estate sectors. These awards recognise overall excellence in the delivery of buildings, civil engineering, infrastructure projects and real estate.

L&T picks up prestigious awards in Singapore for water and wastewater projects
 
L&T's Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) vertical took its place in the spotlight at the 2023 Infrastructure & Going Digital Awards ceremony in Singapore. The awards are given by the Nasdaq-listed Bentley Systems, a global infrastructure engineering software company.
 
Two major projects executed by L&T – the 318 MLD Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) at Coronation Pillar in New Delhi and the Rajghat Dam Multi Village Rural Water Supply Scheme (WSS) in Madhya Pradesh – were declared runners-up in the ‘Structural Engineering’ and ‘Water and Wastewater’ categories, respectively.
 
This is a significant achievement, given that over 300 nominations were submitted by 235 organisations representing 51 different countries.
 
The Coronation Pillar WTP can treat an astounding 318 million litres sewage a day and save over 14,450 tonnes carbon emissions annually. On the other hand, the Rajghat WSS will deliver clean water to 250,000 villagers in Guna and Ashok Nagar districts of Madhya Pradesh.
 
The WSS project team utilised digital tools – such as BIM GIS integration, QR codes for drawings, EIP database management system, progress monitoring using GIS, OPENSTAAD, Python integration, BIM parametric modelling, smart automation, and network automation. The WTP project won accolades for the usage of STAAD software for highly complex geometric structures in the plant.
 
These digital initiatives have saved time and delivered quality engineering.

Union Minister of Heavy Industries Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey commended L&T Special Steels & Heavy Forgings (LTSSHF) for the development of India’s heaviest hydrogenator shaft forgings (36 MT) for lift irrigation / hydropower projects.
 
The honour came at the BHEL SAMVAAD 3.0 hosted by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) and the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) in November 2023.
 
The shafts that LTSSHF has developed used to be imported, mainly from China. When LTSSHF was awarded the order to develop them in India, it did so by enhancing in-house capabilities.

L&T’s world-class A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex at Hazira in Gujarat bagged the Gold award at the 8th CII National Competition on Digitalisation, Robotics & Automation (DRA) - Industry 4.0.
 
It clinched the coveted honour for ‘implementation of advance manufacturing & innovative digital solutions for productivity improvement in critical projects’ in the manufacturing category. The award ceremony was hosted in Gurgaon in October.
 
The award reaffirms L&T’s prowess in digitalisation, robotics and automation which it utilises to enhance the speed and efficiency of manufacturing critical equipment.

L&T Heavy Engineering (HE) shone brightly at the latest FICCI Industry 4.0 Awards & Conference and the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) of India’s 52nd and 53rd National Export Awards.
 
At the FICCI Industry 4.0 Awards & Conference 2023 held in Delhi in December 2023, HE won the coveted Gold award for its commitment to digital journey at the workplace and the robustness of its digital systems.
 
The award was presented by Prof Ajay Kumar Sood (Principal Scientific Advisor – Govt of India) to L&T’s Mr Kaushik Banerjee (GM – Delhi Area Office) and Mr T D Vaidyalingam (Chief Digital Officer – HE).
 
Mr Vaidyalingam also featured in a panel discussion on ‘Best Practices & Benchmarks’ chaired by Mr Sanjeet Singh (Senior Advisor – NITI Aayog). Co-chaired by Mr Rajeev Singh (Partner – Deloitte) and Mr KG Chandrasekhar (Sr VP – SAP Labs India), the discussions focused on the challenges faced in implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions and the possible ways to overcome them.
 
At the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) of India’s 52nd and 53rd National Export Award ceremony too L&T picked up several honours.
 
L&T was recognised as the Star Performer in Large Enterprises for General Purpose Machinery in 2020-21, for Special Purpose Machinery in 2019-20, and has held the status of a 5-star export house since 2020.
 
The awards were presented by the Lt Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Mr Manoj Sinha at a ceremony hosted in New Delhi in November that was graced by Mr Abhijeet Sinha (CEO – National Highway for Electric Vehicles) and Ms Parul Singh (Dy Secretary – Department of Commerce & Industry, GoI).
 
An L&T team led by Mr Anil V Parab (Whole-time Director & Sr EVP – L&T Heavy Engineering and L&T Valves) collected the awards.
 
EEPC India has been the face of Indian engineering exports for over 68 years and is regarded as a model export promotion council in India by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It is a premier trade and investment promotion organisation sponsored by GoI.
