Succour For Schools
Thanks to L&T Smart World & Communication, two remote schools get a makeover

Education is very important for personal and professional growth, as well as for the betterment of communities and the country. It is, therefore, important  that children attend school, particularly in rural areas where they drop out for a variety of reasons. School infrastructure plays a key role in retaining students.

In the vicinity of its projects, L&T Smart World & Communication identified two schools that lacked adequate infrastructure. The schools are – Ghazipur’s Madhyamik Vidyalaya Amrupur in Uttar Pradesh and the Panchayat Union Primary School, Mariyanallur, Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu.

The dilapidated schools lacked basic amenities, such as drinking water, electricity, benches, toilets, playground and so on. Besides, the buildings needed urgent renovation. The dilapidated condition of the schools coupled with the lack of basic facilities had led to a drop in enrolment.

L&T swung into action. By utilising its CSR funds, it appointed civil contractors to undertake the renovation. The work lasted from August to October 2022. Around Rs 25.95 lakh was spent for the UP school and Rs 15 lakh for the Tamil Nadu school.

The transformation was amazing. Not only the schools now look elegant, but the improvement in their basic infrastructure – such as water, toilets and power – has led to an increase in enrolments.

The school authorities and the residents were effusive in their appreciation of L&T for the much-desired initiatives. The upgrade of the school has benefitted these poor village children, laying the foundation for their future.
