Oil platforms from L&T give Saudi Arabia a shot in the arm

Oil makes the world go round, literally as well as figuratively. L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH) had won orders for several mega equipment for the Marjan Increment Project of Saudi Aramco – one of the world’s largest oil companies.

The equipment, being fabricated at L&T’s Hazira (India) and Sohar (Oman) facilities, are at various stages of completion.

On 5 May, LTEH delivered a Tie-in Platform (TP) weighing over 6,316 metric tonnes and subsequently completed the float-over installation at Marjan. The mammoth platform was loaded out from Hazira. Its complex structure includes numerous piping systems, electrical and instrumentation components, and various mechanical equipment.

The delivery follows the offshore installation of four jackets and nine production deck modules supplied from L&T’s Sohar facility. TP-11, delivered earlier from Hazira, is currently in the hook-up and commissioning stage.

LTEH has also commissioned four production deck modules for Marjan, and two of these have commenced production for Saudi Aramco.

Then on 31 May, TP-12 was flagged off from Hazira in the presence of Mr Mohammed Al Qahtani (VP - Upstream Offshore Oil Projects, Aramco), Mr Subramanian Sarma (Whole-time Director & President – Energy, L&T), Mr Parthasarathi Chatterjee (EVP & Head – Offshore, LTEH) and Mr Anil Bontadka (VP & Head - Modular Fabrication Business, LTEH).

After undertaking a tour of L&T’s Hazira facility, the Aramco team expressed high appreciation. Mr Mohammed Al Qahtani lauded the seamless coordination and engineering prowess that are making the Marjan milestones possible.

Zero-Punch Sail-Away

In a remarkable display of offshore engineering mastery, LTEH, in April, achieved a zero-punch point sail-away of oil exploration equipment weighing 1,073 MT.

Fabricated at Hazira, the equipment are for the Manifa Oilfields in Saudi Arabian waters.

The scope of the project encompassed engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of 12 oil drilling and water injection jackets.
