A 100-tonne dump truck makes a mark
Picture a steadfast marathoner whose pace never falters, whose stride never breaks, and whose determination never wanes. This, indeed, is the story of the 100-tonne Komatsu Dump Truck HD785-7 at Tata Steel’s Noamundi mines, supplied and commissioned by L&T Construction & Mining Machinery.
A mechanical marvel, this heavy earthmoving machine was commissioned in April 2010, and achieved an extraordinary milestone – a first in India – 70,000 hours of operation in May 2024. This is a testament to its unwavering quality, reliability, and durability! Even now, it continues to carry its rated payload of 91 metric tonnes.
The journey of the earthmover spans the distance to the moon and back, or a voyage that encircles the globe 21.8 times – a staggering 873,233 kilometres. It has carried a cumulative load of 11.56 million tonnes, roughly twice the weight of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Credit for this stupendous achievement goes to the engineers who designed it and the maintenance team, which is buoyed by the game-changing integrated Komatrax Plus system that ensures an ever-ready team of service engineers and a robust service delivery system.
This vehicle-health-monitoring system continuously checks the vital signs of the machine’s crucial components, allowing for remote analysis and proactive maintenance. Any anomaly triggers an alert, prompting immediate action by service engineers to prevent potential failures and ensure constant uptime.
L&T’s after-sales service includes Full Maintenance Contracts and countrywide state-of-the-art service workshops equipped with advanced tools.
Moreover, L&T’s service executives are stationed at mines where these machines operate, offering round-the-clock support. The Central Warehouses of L&T and Komatsu in Nagpur ensure that the machines are never out of action due to lack of components.
