L&T's modules are helping a fertiliser plant take shape in Australia
L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH) ) has reached a significant milestone with the successful despatch of the first lot of modules for Perdaman Industries’ latest-gen Modular Urea Plant in Karratha in Australia.
Known as Project CERES, it will be the world’s largest gas stream ammonia- urea plant, with a production capacity of 2.3 million tonnes of granular urea per year. The EPC project is being undertaken by a joint venture of Saipem of Italy and Clough of Australia.
On 12 February, L&T’s Modular Fabrication Facility at Kattupalli (MFFK), Tamil Nadu, hosted a flag-off ceremony to mark the sail-away of the first 23 modules for Project CERES. The shipment consisted of five Piperack modules weighing approximately 1,000 metric tonnes.
The load-out was executed in a record time – less than 72 hours from vessel berthing to departure – demonstrating exceptional coordination and efficiency.
The event was attended by senior representatives of the Saipem-Clough JV and Perdaman Industries. Ishan Ramball Manager – Interface & Controls, Perdaman Chemicals & Fertilisers) appreciated the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in achieving this crucial milestone.
Project CERES is located within the Strategic Industrial Area of the Burrup Peninsula in Australia. It will include an ammonia production block, a urea production and granulation block, and utilities. It aligns with global sustainability goals, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050. The Western Australian Government has recognised the project as one of state significance.
LTEH has been entrusted with the fabrication of 110 modules (~66,000 MT), reinforcing its role as a trusted global partner in modular construction. The despatch of the first lot of modules highlights L&T’s engineering excellence and commitment to timely project completion, while ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality.
It solidifies MFFK’s reputation as a leading global hub for the delivery of large-scale modules for marquee projects worldwide. With further lots progressing at full pace, this milestone propels Project Ceres closer to its vision of delivering a world-class fertiliser production facility.
