Golden Streak
Golden Streak
L&T-ites are great engineers and professionals but sometimes they are accomplished sportspersons too. So it was when Ms Suzan Stenita Jathanna from L&T’s Transportation Infrastructure vertical bagged, not one, but four gold medals at a recently concluded international athletic championship in Sri Lanka.

All of the disciplines that she took part in and won gold are heavy-duty – hammer throw, discus throw, shot put and javelin. She competed in the under-35 age category. The championship, co- organised by the Sanyukta Bharatiya Khel Foundation (SBKF), the Sports and Games Association, India, and hosted by the Sri Lankan Sports Foundation, was held at the Sugathadasa International Stadium in Colombo from 10 – 15 December.

Ms Jathanna took the top honours among 125 athletes from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. She had qualified for the championship at the National Veterans Sports & Games Championship held at Nashik in November 2021, where too she won a rich haul of medals. It included a gold in javelin throw, a silver in hammer and discus throw and a bronze medal in shot put in the 30+ category.

Now an assistant engineering manager (environmental) in L&T, Ms Jathanna belongs to a family of athletes and had joined L&T as a post-graduate engineering trainee (PGET) in 2013. An avid sportswoman since her childhood, she successfully balances training, work and family, especially as a doting mother to a five-year-old daughter.

Her performance in Colombo was appreciated by the certified coaches of Sri Lanka and she was encouraged by several athletes and coaches to participate in the Asian Games.
