Miles, Mines & Milestones
L&T’s compactor business received a boost with the roll-out of the 500th L&T 491 Mini Compactor from L&T Construction Equipment Limited’s (LTCEL) campus at Doddaballapura near Bengaluru.
The milestone machine was handed over to Mr T S Amarnath of Mahima Infrastructures by Mr Arvind K Garg, EVP of L&T’s Construction & Mining Machinery business (CMB). Present on the occasion were Mr Vivek Hajela (VP – CMB), Mr H Shridhara Hande (CE – LTCEL) and Mr Jaikumar Kamath (Head – Road Machinery Business, CMB).
Based in Bengaluru, Mahima Infrastructures executes roads and civil works for the realty segment. It also caters to the Bengaluru Smart City Ltd and the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited. A large fleet owner, Mahima possesses 10 L&T compactors. Its new acquisition, the 3400-kg mini compactor has 1.2 m drum width, and can be deployed for apartment basements, township roads, parking lots, footpaths, compaction around pillars for elevated metro rail, national highway shoulder compaction and various jobs in Smart City projects.
L&T’s compactors are widely used in the road segment and have been deployed for the construction of roads and toll-ways. The other compactors L&T offers are – L&T 1190 Soil Compactor, the L&T 990 Tandem Compactor and the L&T 2490 Pneumatic Tyred Roller.
Then, setting a record of sorts, L&T recently delivered the 100th Komatsu mining machine to the public sector entity South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). The keys of the machine – a WA800-3EO Wheel Loader – were formally handed over to SECL’s GM – Excavation Mr B K Kurrey by L&T’s Mr Sumit Dutta and Mr Kiran Tilaganji.
SECL is the largest subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) and has reserves spread across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. It operates as many as 67 coal mines. The Komatsu machines are used in SECL’s Gevra, Dipka and Kusmunda mines, and are supported by L&T’s Nagpur service centre.
It’s been for decades now that the coal industry has depended on Komatsu’s machines for their quality, reliability and durability. L&T has been closely associated with all the subsidiaries of CIL, delivering and commissioning Komatsu machines at various projects, despite the COVID constraints.
