A view of the swriling road newtork that L&T has constructed in Dubai.
L&T has completed the last phase of the Expo 2020 Road network in Dubai aimed at ensuring safe and smooth transport of visitors to the international event schedule in October this year. In preparation for the World Expo, the Roads & Transport Authority of host city Dubai had set a master mobility plan by developing a wide network of roads and bridges. Out of the six network projects, L&T had bagged the contracts for two - R1048/1 and R1048/5. Located at one of the busiest highway intersections in Dubai and with the presence of live critical utility lines, the projects were extremely challenging. Running against a stiff deadline, L&T kick started the construction in July 2017. The first project, R1048/5, was completed in October last year; the second project, R1048/1, was homed in on 14 February. In all, L&T has taken only 32 months to deliver. The development has increased the capacity of Shaikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road from 8,000 to 60,000 vehicles per hour, while reducing the transit time from Al Houdh Interchange to Al Maktoum Airport to a meagre six minutes from what was 35 minutes earlier. This apart, the new road network has also provided a direct exit from the Expo venue to Shaikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road northwards of Dubai. The L&T team behind the milestone was led by Project Director Mr Wael Mohamed Abouelfetouh Hosny and team with the key players being Mr Jayan Chacko Ipe, Mr Yogesh Bramhankar and Mr Amit Janardan Thorat.
