Mumbai Metro’s Line 3, covering the Colaba–Bandra-SEEPZ stretch, has got the much-needed shot in the arm. This after the tunnel boring machine (TBM), Wainganga, made the final breakthrough at the under-construction Seepz metro station.
L&T-STEC JV, which is implementing UGC-07 packet of the Line 3, successfully completed the tunnelling work on 12 December.
Mr C Jadhav, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC)’s chief project manager for the project, and Mr Mainak Roy, General Consultant CRE, were present as the TBM made the breakthrough. Mr Jadhav lauded the L&T-STEC JV team for overcoming the challenges such as mining under the operating Metro Line-1 and, the varying geology along the stretch.
The 7-km tunnelling work had commenced in December 2017. It took three TBMs make six drives and eight breakthroughs involving a team of 2,600 manpower. There were 175 personnel dedicated for the TBM operation.This is the first package in Mumbai Metro Line 3 where the tunnelling work is complete.
