B&F Delivers Duqm International Airport
Construction of Duqm International Airport was quite challenging given its remote location in the coastal belt of Al Wusta region, some 600 kilometers away from the capital Muscat
A week after the inauguration of an airport in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, L&T’s Buildings & Factories business delivered yet another airport, this time in Oman. On September 17, 2018, the brand new Duqm International Airport was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Me’thad bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Yaqoubi, Governor of the Al Wusta Governorate, along with His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al-Zaabi, CEO of Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA). Representing L&T Oman on the occasion were, Mr. G.R. Ranganath, Chief Executive, Mr. C.R. Lakshman, Chief Financial Officer, Mr. G.Ramasubbu, Cluster Project Manager (B&F) and Mr. Vinod Kumar Mehta, Project Director along with the entire team that worked on the project. Construction of Duqm International Airport was quite challenging given its remote location in the coastal belt of Al Wusta region, a good 600 kilometers away from the capital Muscat. The scope of work executed by L&T Oman included the passenger terminal building, cargo, air traffic control tower & complex, aircraft rescue & firefighting complex, ground support equipment building, central utilities complex, substations all total 15 buildings along with sewage treatment plant, building management system, firefighting systems, information technology systems, special airport systems and external services spanning in area of 5,963 acres. The total built up area of buildings is 27,386 Sqm with roads of 34,987 Sq m, external pavers of 8,689, Soft landscaping at 3,560 Sq m. The capacity of Duqm Airport stands at around 500,000 passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo per annum.
