ASEAN BU’s 275/132/33kV GIS and 275/33kV AIS Substation projects in Samalaju and Lambir in East Malaysia were dedicated to the nation by Mr. Pramod Kumar Karunakaran, Executive Vice President – Sarawak Energy on September 19, 2018. The event was attended by Mr. Tan Hang Kiak, Project Director, Ms. Khiew Ai Lin, Project Manager (Samalaju), Mr. Gregary Chan Kok Kiong, Project Manager (Lambir) and others from Sarawak Energy, the electrical utility and Mr. Srikant Srinivasan, Vice President & Head - HR, PT&D, J. Stalin Babu, Area Manager – East Malaysia, Nitesh Kumar, Project Manager, Mr. Eswara Rao, Head-Finance & Admin, ASEAN BU and L&T teams for both projects.
The Lambir substation project which is L&T’s maiden T&D project in Southeast Asia and the Samalaju project which is the largest ever GIS substation project in South East Asia were successfully commissioned in Mar 2018 and Jun 2018 respectively. Adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety and achieving on-time completion of works under stringent timelines in these projects enabled the BU to gain the confidence of Sarawak Energy while also establishing L&T as a leading T&D player in the ASEAN region. ASEAN BU, with its regional head office in Kuala Lumpur, is currently executing 2 projects in Malaysia and 3 projects in Thailand. To support its growth plans, the BU is on a geographical expansion mode and is working closely with utilities in Indonesia, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar to secure T&D projects.
