Chennai Metro’s BW-UG-03 Project Successfully Commissioned

Heavy Civil Infrastructure successfully commissioned the BW-UG-03 project for CMRL involving ramp and underground stations viz., Saidapet, Nandanam, Teynampet, and AG-DMS. This stretch is a part of the Blue Line of the Chennai metro which takes the passengers to the airport within 20 minutes.

The Blue line was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami through video conference on May 25, 2018, while CMRL officials at the project site were accompanied by Mr. S.V. Desai, EVP and Head-HCI IC, Project Director Mr. N.S. Sridharan and Mr. K.Gurusamy-Project Director-UG02 during the inauguration. The UG-03 team was applauded by the CMRL officials for their immense contribution in inaugurating the Metro line as per the contractual timelines.  The project was inaugurated within a record time of 5 days after the inspection by Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).

The brownfield project mitigated various challenges such as Chennai floods in Dec’15, uncertainties involving geological strata and water seepage. The team achieved a commendable feat by setting new track record of erecting OTE ducts in 29 days and 22 days in Teynampet and AGDMS stations respectively. Seven cross passages were completed within the planned period of 4 months despite facing odds such as geological strata and high water tables. The site has clocked 5.2 million safe man-hours making it a zero incident project.
