PT&D Commissions Largest Auto Transformer in the Gulf Region

PT&D project team at Qatar added two milestones to its list of powerful benchmarks by commissioning an 800 MVA 400/220 kV auto transformer for the first time in the Gulf Region and simultaneously also laying the first 400 kV cable as a part of the Phase 12 substation works at Saliyah Super Substation for Kahramaa on May 23, 2018. The challenging task was successfully achieved along with the commissioning of other key equipment such as modification of 400 kV GIS bay, 220 kV GIS bay, 220 kV GIB duct, modification works in bay watch system, transformer monitoring system by integrating with existing TMS system, 400 kV cable installation, testing and commissioning.

The project was executed adhering to stringent safety and quality standards, in a brownfield environment inside the live 400 kV substation. The project successfully overcame the constraints of working in live panels to interface with the existing system.
