Lambir 275/33 kV Substation Commissioned
The enhanced power infrastructure will serve as the second injection hub for the city of Miri.
Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business added yet another feather in its cap recently with the commissioning of its maiden Transmission & Distribution (T&D) project for Sarawak Energy in Malaysia which involved construction of the critical Lambir 275/33 kV substation. This enhanced power infrastructure will now serve as a second injection hub for the city of Miri, the second largest city in the state of Sarawak and an important load centre with a population of more than 350,000. Located along the Miri-Bintulu trunk road, the substation was conceived to serve as a second injection point of supply to complement the existing substation.
The turnkey EPC contract for the construction of the Lambir substation was awarded to L&T in 2016. The project involved construction of a control room building, 13 bays of 275 kV and installation of 120 MVA transformer. L&T’s world class project management skills combined with application of digital technologies and tools ensured an incident free construction under critical conditions and stringent timelines. The project won many accolades from the client for its performance on multiple metrics, chief among which is the EIA (Environment Impact Assessment) compliance award for maintaining outstanding environmental management practices during execution. Adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety and achieving on-time completion of works under stringent timelines enabled PT&D’s ASEAN BU to not only gain the confidence of the client but also establish L&T as a leading T&D player in the ASEAN region. ASEAN BU, with its regional head office in Kuala Lumpur, is currently executing three projects each in Malaysia and Thailand. To support its growth plans, the BU is on a geographical expansion mode and is working closely with utilities in Indonesia, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar to secure T&D projects.
