L&T Heavy Engineering achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully manufacturing and delivering eight Atmospheric Residue Desulphurization (ARDS) Reactors with critical 21/4Cr-1Mo-V metallurgy, well ahead of schedule for a prestigious project from Petronas. On February 8, 2017, the reactors were flagged-off from L&T's Hazira Manufacturing Complex, one of the biggest integrated manufacturing facilities in the world.
The reactors are built for the RAPID (Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development) Project, a massive $27 billion undertaking by Petronas. RAPID is the single largest greenfield development project in the Malaysian history and when complete will be among the largest integrated refinery and petro-chemical complexes in the world.
Winning the order against competition from Japanese, European and Chinese fabricators, L&T's scope for the same involved manufacturing 7000 MT of 21/4Cr-1Mo-V Forged Reactors. The achievement reaffirms L&T's capabilities in handling critical metallurgy and large volumes in heavy fabrication.
Commenting on the feat, Ir Dr. Colin Wong Hee Huing, Sr. VP & CEO, Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation said, “I am very satisfied by the efforts and hard work carried out by the team in meeting their commitment to Petronas for quality fabrication of these reactors. By completing this challenging assignments, L&T has once again demonstrated their capabilities to handle large volumes and strong commitments to quality and deliveries."
“I am not aware of many fabricators in the world who can match Larsen & Toubro. I have no hesitation to say that L&T is one of the best shops in the world and capable of meeting future challenges," he added.
