Section of Al Wakrah Bypass Opens to Traffic Months Ahead of Schedule
L&T’s Al Wakrah Bypass Expressway Road Project (Qatar) achieved a major milestone by opening one of the main carriageways and associated ancillary highways to traffic, full 3 months ahead of schedule. The carriageway was opened to traffic in the early hours of Monday on July 3, 2017.

As the lifeline of Qatar, the expressway connects the Hamad Port - the newest and the biggest port of the country – to Doha. Along with the main carriageway, ancillary roads at IC 12 and IC 11 were also opened easing traffic flow to and from Al Wakrah and Al Wukair localities.

The main carriageway is a 12 km long, 6 lane expressway, while the length of other roads opened to traffic measures 7 km of 2 lanes. The project team achieved this feat despite a challenging environment and the stringent specification requirements coupled with the current diplomatic crisis in the GCC region.

Al Wakrah Bypass Road Project is an expressway project owned by Ashghal, the Public Works Authority of Qatar, consisting of 11.5 km of 6-lane dual carriageway, with 900 km of various utility lines and 26 bridges constituting 5 interchanges. The project bypasses Al Wakrah, a busy sub-urban locality, South of Doha, to establish connectivity between the new port and Doha.
