Hyderabad Safe & Smart City Project Wins ‘Best Project Award’

Smart World & Communication Business’ Hyderabad Safe & Smart City project was recognized with the ‘Best Project Award’ in the country at the Smart City Expo 2018 held in Jaipur. The project which is the largest Safe & Smart City project to be executed in India with over 12000 surveillance cameras, 1 Lakh+ community cameras integration, emergency & disaster management, computer aided dispatch, AI-based adaptive signaling, traffic enforcement automation, AI-based insights, facial recognition & multi-agency platform, and high-tech systems deployed. The Hyderabad Safe & Smart City project is also the first project to have adopted Larsen & Toubro Smart City Agile Development Framework for parallel execution of digital and physical infrastructure.

At the expo, Smart World & Communication Business’ Vishakhapatnam Smart City project also received a special mention in ‘Best Impactful Thought Leader’ category. The project is India’s first smart city project to go live with Fully Integrated Command & Control Centre with e-Governance.

L&T’s Water & Effluent Treatment business won the prestigious ‘Global Innovation in Water Technology Award’ for its work in Water Management at the Global Water Summit held at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra in Delhi on August 23, 2018. Mr. K. Lakshmanan, Segment Head (North), Mr. J. Venkatesh, Sr. Deputy General Manager (Water Management) and Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Salah (Water Technologist) of WET received the award from Mr. Anil Razdan, Former Secretary, Power & Chairman, Energy and Environment Foundation, Dr. V. K. Garg, Former Chairman, Power Finance Corporation and Dr. Anil Garg, CEO, Energy and Environment Foundation.

The awards are aimed at recognising inspiring business solutions across the globe across select categories. WET Business participated and showcased its innovations in automation, data analytics and water audit management through a platform that was engineered along with L&T Infotech for Bisalpur Tonk Uniyara Water Supply Project and won the top ‘Platinum Award’ in the said category.

On October 16, 2018 at the Legal 500 GC Powerlist Middle East event in Dubai, L&T Construction’s Legal Team was included in the GC Powerlist Middle East Teams 2018 by International Bar Association. The team was recognized as one of the most influential and innovative in-house counsels working in the Middle East region providing strategic support to key projects such as the Al Rayyan FIFA 2022 World Cup Stadium (Qatar), the new Abu Dhabi International Airport (UAE), the Shalalah international Airport(Oman) and Gold Line of the Doha Metro Project (Qatar), among others. Mr. Amba Prasad, Head – Legal Services and Mr. T.S. Harish, Head – Legal (Middle East) attended the event and received the honor. The GC Powerlist is the latest publication from The Legal 500, a firm which publishes directories and research relating to law firms and lawyers from across the world.

B&F Built Medical College & Hospital Inaugurated in Balasore

Balasore-based Fakir Mohan Medical College & Hospital built by L&T Construction’s Buildings & Factories’ Health BU was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Mr. Naveen Patnaik in the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister of State, Health & Family Welfare, Mr. Aswini Kumar Choubey on September 3, 2018. In his inaugural address the CM reiterated his government’s commitment to providing quality health service to all the citizens of the state and praised L&T for its commendable effort in constructing the state-of-the-art campus within a short span of two years.

Named after legendary Odia poet and novelist Fakir Mohan Senapati, the 26 acres Medical College Campus comprises Academic and Departments Blocks, 3 Residential Quarters for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff, 4 Hostels for Boys, Girls, Interns and Senior Doctors, other service areas and playgrounds. The campus is equipped with HVAC Systems, Elevators in all buildings, PA and Fire Alarm Systems for safety purpose. The project received GRIHA-4 Star Rating from the GRIHA Committee and Safety Certificate from the client for achieving 3 million accident free safe man-hours.

Sindhudurg Gets New Airport

On September 12, 2018 a newly built airport at Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, was inaugurated formally by the state’s Honorable Minister of Finance & Rural Development (Maharashtra) Mr. Deepak Kesarkar.  The Domestic Airport Complex at Sindhudurg comprises a 2760-meter long world-class runway catering to CODE-D aircrafts with a Passenger Terminal Building and ancillary facility buildings of international standards. The terminal building with an approximate area of 9500 sq m will have three aircraft stands for aircraft boarding operations.

It will also house a mix of commercial enterprises to serve the needs of passengers.

The ceremony commenced with the landing of an aircraft carrying an idol of Lord Ganesha. Mr. Deepak Kesarkar and other dignitaries present on the occasion praised L&T for its work and commended the team from Buildings & Factories business for its efforts. Mr. Neeraj Parmar, Project Manager- B&F, was felicitated on the occasion by the minister.

B&F Delivers Duqm International Airport

A week after the inauguration of an airport in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, L&T’s Buildings & Factories business delivered yet another airport, this time in Oman. On September 17, 2018, the brand new Duqm International Airport was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Me’thad bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Yaqoubi, Governor of the Al Wusta Governorate, along with His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al-Zaabi, CEO of Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA). Representing L&T Oman on the occasion were, Mr. G.R. Ranganath, Chief Executive, Mr. C.R. Lakshman, Chief Financial Officer, Mr. G.Ramasubbu, Cluster Project Manager (B&F) and Mr. Vinod Kumar Mehta, Project Director along with the entire team that worked on the project.

Construction of Duqm International Airport was quite challenging given its remote location in the coastal belt of Al Wusta region, a good 600 kilometers away from the capital Muscat. The scope of work executed by L&T Oman included the passenger terminal building, cargo, air traffic control tower & complex, aircraft rescue & firefighting complex, ground support equipment building, central utilities complex, substations all total 15 buildings along with sewage treatment plant, building management system, firefighting systems, information technology systems, special airport systems and external services spanning in area of 5,963 acres. The total built up area of buildings is 27,386 Sqm with roads of 34,987 Sq m, external pavers of 8,689, Soft landscaping at 3,560 Sq m. The capacity of Duqm Airport stands at around 500,000 passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo per annum.

Water and Effluent Treatment Business Unit’s Mega Lift Irrigation Project, Cluster III, TFL-1, achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of 19 Lift Irrigation Schemes by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Mr. Naveen Patnaik on September 8, 2018. It was a moment of pride for the project team as the schemes stand to benefit people across the four districts of the state viz., Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda. The CM along with other Ministers interacted with beneficiaries and highlighted the benefits of the project which will provide water to 24,020 ha of land and cater to over 200 villages.

L&T Construction HR Wins Top Honours at SHRM HR Excellence Awards

L&T HR walked away with top honours for ‘Excellence in Talent Acquisition’ and ‘Excellence in Leveraging HR Technology’ at the glitzy SHRM HR Excellence Awards 2018 held at the Taj Palace, New Delhi on October 11, 2018. The HR Excellence Awards were presented to L&T after a stringent three-level evaluation process that included a final presentation to an esteemed jury and a Q&A. The evaluation parameters included innovation, impact on stakeholders, sustainability and scalability. Dr. C. Jayakumar, General Manager & Head – Human Resources, Mr. Bikram Nayak, Head - Talent Acquisition, Ms. Soujanya Sandesh, Sr. Manager (Talent Acquisition) & Ms. V. Sheeja, Asst. Manager (HR Digitalization & New Initiatives) made the final presentation before the jury.

The HR team at L&T Construction embarked on a digitalization journey nearly two years ago. Encouraged by the vision of Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, CEO & MD to do things digitally, the team employed digital initiatives such as shortlisting of candidates through AI & Machine Learning Engine, revamping of career portal, using Adobe & Zoom Technology for greater efficiency; Digital on-boarding & gamification for enhanced candidate experience. Effective utilization of HR mobile apps and facebook@work were other salient features that gave L&T a clear competitive edge over the others.

Key Substation Projects in Samalaju and Lambir Commissioned

​ASEAN BU’s 275/132/33kV GIS and 275/33kV AIS Substation projects in Samalaju and Lambir in East Malaysia were dedicated to the nation by Mr. Pramod Kumar Karunakaran, Executive Vice President – Sarawak Energy on September 19, 2018. The event was attended by Mr. Tan Hang Kiak, Project Director, Ms. Khiew Ai Lin, Project Manager (Samalaju), Mr. Gregary Chan Kok Kiong, Project Manager (Lambir) and others from Sarawak Energy, the electrical utility and Mr. Srikant Srinivasan, Vice President & Head - HR, PT&D, J. Stalin Babu, Area Manager – East Malaysia, Nitesh Kumar, Project Manager, Mr. Eswara Rao, Head-Finance & Admin, ASEAN BU and L&T teams for both projects.

The Lambir substation project which is L&T’s maiden T&D project in Southeast Asia and the Samalaju project which is the largest ever GIS substation project in South East Asia were successfully commissioned in Mar 2018 and Jun 2018 respectively. Adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety and achieving on-time completion of works under stringent timelines in these projects enabled the BU to gain the confidence of Sarawak Energy while also establishing L&T as a leading T&D player in the ASEAN region. ASEAN BU, with its regional head office in Kuala Lumpur, is currently executing 2 projects in Malaysia and 3 projects in Thailand. To support its growth plans, the BU is on a geographical expansion mode and is working closely with utilities in Indonesia, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar to secure T&D projects.
