From winning recognition to hosting a study mission – L&T thrives in Great Workplace domain
 
Larsen & Toubro has always considered people its prime assets. On 19 June, at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai, the Company received the honour of being one of India’s ‘Best Employers Among Nation-Builders 2024’ by the Great Place to Work® (GPTW) Institute. L&T was also recognised as the ‘Best in Industry’ in the Construction & Infrastructure and the Real Estate segments.
 
A team led by Dr C Jayakumar (EVP & Head – Corporate HR, L&T) received the certificates from GPTW dignitaries.
 
This is the second year in a row that the GPTW honours have been conferred on L&T. They are a testament to L&T’s values and vision and an unwavering commitment to building an inclusive economy and society.
 
L&T has been promoting economic growth, creating careers, and supporting local communities, making a significant impact on the lives of many. The Company plays a vital role in building a stronger economy and a prosperous society, and also provides a great workplace experience to its employees.
 
In a related development, in May, L&T hosted a GTPW Study Mission wherein the HR teams from several GPTW-certified organisations came together, learning best practices from each other. Hosted at AMN Tower in Mumbai, the day-long event was attended by over 50 senior HR leaders.
 
L&T showcased its HR best practices at the event and conducted interactive sessions, gaining valuable insights into nurturing a thriving workplace.

Hyderabad Metro makes maiden entry into GPTW in style
 
L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (L&TMHRL) has been certified as a Great Place to Work® (GPTW), making it the only metro rail entity in India to have earned the honour this year. It has been recognised in the mid-size organisation category.
 
The achievement underscores L&TMHRL’s commitment to fostering a positive and empowering work environment. The company’s dedication to employee well- being and growth has been instrumental in creating a culture of trust, respect, and innovation.
 
Mr S N Subrahmanyan (CMD – L&T), Mr R Shankar Raman (CFO – L&T) and Mr D K Sen (Advisor to the CMD) – all of whom are also on L&TMRHL’s Board of Directors – commended the GPTW certification.
 
They appreciated the dedication of the entire L&TMRHL team, especially Mr K V B Reddy (MD & CEO), Mr Bino Mathew Jose (Head – HR), Mr Sudhir Chiplunkar (COO), Mr P Ravishankar (VP & Head – Transit Oriented Development, Project Planning, Control & Contracts), Mr Murali Varadarajan (CSO), Mr Rahul Nilosey (CFO) and Mr A Srinivas (Head, F&A).
 
Commenting on the feat, Mr Reddy says that L&TMHRL is committed to continuously improving its work environment and providing employees with the best opportunities to thrive. He complimented the HR department for fostering a culture of collaboration, recognition and professional development, empowering employees to reach their full potential and contribute to the company’s success.
 
L&TMRHL is one of the few organisations to have received a high Trust Index score of 92 in the GPTW assessment and that too in its maiden attempt. The certification process involved a rigorous assessment, which revealed that L&TMHRL excels in several key areas like credibility, respect, fairness, camaraderie, pride, and meaningful work.

Caring and inclusive workplace culture gets Nabha Power the GPTW certification
 
Yet another L&T entity has been certified as a Great Place to Work® (GPTW)! Nabha Power Limited (NPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of L&T, has been conferred the prestigious certification for the year 2024-25.
 
This comes in recognition of NPL’s commitment to creating a caring and inclusive workplace culture. Counting the employees as its prime assets, NPL strives to foster a work environment where everyone feels valued, respected and inspired to perform at their best.
 
The sense of community at NPL extends beyond the employees to their families as well. This inclusive approach has built a strong sense of trust between the employees and the management, as is evident in the success of various initiatives such as Fusion Clubs, kids camp, monthly rendezvous, Voice of NPL, NPL Day, etc.
 
Mutual respect and sustainable operational practices are cornerstones of NPL’s workplace culture. These elements create a unique, harmonious camaraderie among all members of the organisation.
 
NPL runs a 2x700 MW supercritical thermal power plant at Rajpura in Punjab and is the lowest cost thermal power producer in the state, operating at high Plant Load Factor. Thanks to committed workforce, NPL keeps on winning power industry awards for the efficiency of its plant.

L&T Heavy Engineering earns coveted awards for ESG and innovative measures
 
The A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex (AMNHEC) of L&T at Hazira in Gujarat has been conferred the ‘Best CSR Project of the Year’ award in the manufacturing category at the Corporate Social Responsibility Summit & Awards 2024 by UBS Forums.
 
The award has been bestowed for a project that L&T undertook ensuring drinking water security in 15 villages near Hazira. Being near the sea, the villages have always faced water scarcity due to the salinity of the water and soil and the unavailability of water storage infrastructure.
 
L&T constructed underground water tanks at 15 villages along the coast, around 28 kilometres from Hazira, where the AMNHEC is located.
 
In another development, L&T Heavy Engineering has been bestowed the Southern Gujarat Chamber Of Commerce & Industry Golden Jubilee Memorial Trust Award for outstanding performance in energy conservation.
 
The award is a testament to L&T’s unwavering dedication to energy conservation, achieved through sustainable manufacturing practices at the AMNHEC.
 
The Trust was established in 1990 to acknowledge exceptional contributions by individuals and organisations through an annual award for excellence in various fields.

That’s not all! Heavy Engineering’s Special Fabrication Unit has won a Silver trophy in the 48th CII National Kai-zen Competition. A total of 47 innovative ideas were presented by leading companies in the automobile, engineering and construction industry segments.
 
L&T won the award for its innovative Nozzle Welding Automation for Filter Vessel, which truly showcases how small changes can make a big difference. The innovation led to significant improvements in quality control, delivery time, standardisation of work, efficient equipment usage, waste reduction and cost reduction.
 
These awards are a testament to L&T Heavy Engineering’s commitment to ESG, innovation and digitalisation.

L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical has been honoured with the National Award for Innovative Training Practices 2022-23 conferred by the Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD) at Delhi.
 
PT&D’s Human Resources (HR) team presented two key initiatives –‘Draftsperson Skill Development Programme’ and ‘Step Up’ to a nine-member jury. The team scored over many prominent organisations to emerge winners.
 
The achievement underlines PT&D’s commitment to delivering impactful interventions endorsed by L&T’s business leaders. It reflects the unwavering commitment to innovation and skill enhancement which has enabled the organisation to grow exponentially.
 
The event was graced by, among others, ISTD’s Dr Uddesh Kohli (President Emeritus), Ms Anita Chauhan (National President), Ms Usha Jain (Regional Head, Northern Region) and Mr D K Banwet (ex- National President & Professor Emeritus, IIT Delhi).
 
A premier institution in the field of HR development, ISTD instituted this award in 1990 to honour the exemplary work done in the area of training and development.

L&T recently received an award for employee health and well-being initiatives undertaken by its Medical & Welfare Department.
 
The Kauvery Wellness Warrier Award has been presented to L&T’s Manapakkam campus (Chennai) for its multifarious initiatives – ranging from onsite wellness camps and healthy food options at cafeterias, to ergonomic workstations and comprehensive health insurance plans.
 
The award affirms the success of L&T’s caring culture. By prioritising employee health and wellness, L&T creates a work environment where individuals can flourish, thus augmenting productivity.

For maintaining high safety standards on specific projects, several L&T verticals have been conferred awards for 2024 by the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) UK.
 
RoSPA Gold Awards were conferred on 20 projects being undertaken by various L&T verticals, acknowledging a very high level of performance, demonstrating well developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture, outstanding control of risk and very low levels of error, harm and loss.
 
Gold Medal Awards were presented to L&T Construction - Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) CTP-14 for having received five consecutive Gold Awards, and to L&T’s Transportation Infrastructure vertical for the WDFC Phase-II Electrical & Mechanical Package 16 for having received six consecutive Gold Awards.
 
RoSPA Silver Awards were conferred on 14 projects being undertaken by various L&T businesses, for having achieved a high level of performance underpinned by good management systems which are delivering consistent improvement and are working towards the level of excellence required for a Gold Award.
 
RoSPA recognition has become a key factor in the international health & safety arena. Key areas of evaluation include significant continual improvement achieved during the review period, top management’s commitment, effective implementation of EHS management systems, risk assessment, EHS performance monitoring, and occupational health, safety and well--being objectives.

L&T has picked up a prodigious 78 International Safety Awards conferred by the British Safety Council (BSC) in 2024: 16 Distinction, 44 Merit and 18 Pass.
 
For instance, L&T Energy Power (LTEP) was conferred two awards : a Merit Award for the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) Units 7 & 8 in the construction category and a Pass Award in the manufacturing category for L&T-MHI Turbine Generators, Hazira.
 
Mr Y S Srikanth (Head – Operations Services, LTEP), Mr Nishil Jos (Head – EHS Capability Centre, LTEP), Mr Ramanuj Yadav (Manager – EHS Capability Centre, LTEP) and Mr Ramesh Veeravalli (EHS Manager – RAPP) received the awards from Mr Mike Robinson (CEO – BSC) at a ceremony in Mumbai on 30 May.
 
The quantum of these prestigious awards affirms L&T’s leadership and commitment to excellent standards of health, safety and well-being.
