Hyderabad Metro’s innovative move marries workspace and mobility

Breaking new ground in India’s urban transport sector, Hyderabad Metro has opened the evocatively named Office Bubbles – secure, co-working spaces – strategically located within the bustling metro stations of HITEC City, Durgam Cheruvu and Madhapur.

The Office Bubbles were inaugurated in April by Mr K V B Reddy (MD & CEO – L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd – L&TMRHL) and Mr P Ravi Shankar (VP & Head – Transit Oriented Development, Project Planning, Control & Contracts).

The Office Bubbles offer flexible options – from unfurnished to fully furnished spaces. These workspaces come with the bonus of reduced operational costs as well as networking opportunities, thanks to the constant flow of commuters. This is a winning solution for businesses and customers alike.

Recognising the immense potential of the Office Bubbles, business organisations have started vying for these flexible and strategically positioned workspaces. One such entity, Trendz Workspace, has taken 10,000 sq ft Office Bubbles on lease across three metro stations.

L&T kickstarts a new journey for Saudi Arabia’s energy sector

Work on the biggest-ever order received by L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH) – Aramco’s Jafurah Gas Processing Facilities, Phase-2, Package-1 (JG2P1) in Saudi Arabia – commenced on 20 May with the ceremonial ground-breaking ceremony.

Present from Aramco were Mr Khalid Al- Abdulqader (Sr VP and Executive Sponsor of Jafurah Development Programme), Mr Adullah A Sughaiyer (VP – Upstream Gas Projects), Mr Hesham Al Saleem and Mr Yaser Alomair from the project team. The senior representatives of Nasser S Al-Hajri Corporation (NSH) and Sinopec – LTEH’s sub-contractors in this project – also graced the occasion.

On the LTEH team welcoming the guests were Mr Subramanian Sarma (Whole- time Director & President – Energy), Mr E Sathyanarayanan (COO – LTEH, Middle East), Mr G Sathyanarayanan (VP & Project Director), Mr Jitendra Pawar (GM & Project Manager), Mr K Lakshmanan (GM & Construction Director) and Mr M Saravanan (JGM & Construction Manager – JG2P1).

Mr Asem Alafaleq (Project Engineer – Aramco) provided an overview of the Jafurah project detailing the gas processing scheme. After the ceremonial ground- breaking, the foundation was laid, and a plaque was unveiled.

Speaking on the occasion, Aramco leaders expressed confidence that L&T would make the project a success, while maintaining all safety parameters. Echoing them, Mr Sarma said that L&T would leave no stone unturned to achieve every milestone and underscored that the collaborative efforts of L&T and Aramco teams would be the most important determinant of success.

This project is part of Aramco’s Unconventional Resources Programme that seeks to develop grassroot gas surface facilities to produce, process, and transport gas to meet Saudi Arabia’s energy needs.

While the Jafurah Development Programme is being undertaken in several phases, the Jafurah Gas Plant –which will process raw gas received from the Jafurah Gas Fields – is being constructed in two phases.

Phase-1 includes grassroot gas-gathering, gas-compression plants, separate gas and liquid trunk line networks that feed fluids from wellheads to the Jafurah Gas Plant. The plant has two gas trains, each with a feed gas design capacity of 550 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day). Phase-2 will expand the raw gas capacity to 3.2 BSCFD (billion SCFD), by adding 2.1 BSCFD raw gas processing capacity.

L&T Howden’s innovative solution cuts down cycle time for FDG booster fan production

Smart business is all about finding solutions at the right time. Recently, in response to customer demand for faster delivery of Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) booster fans, team L&T Howden has developed a solution that has, in turn, sped up production. It is the Combined Oil Unit (COU) for axial flow fans.

Earlier, obtaining the COU from vendors took almost a year, resulting in delayed delivery of the fans. Naturally, this gave rise to discontent among the customers, i.e., the state electricity boards and independent power producers who undertake FGD projects involving removal of sulphur dioxide from exhaust flue gases of fossil-fuel power plants – giving us power without pollution.

The COU is a vital part of an axial flow fan system, which is responsible for smooth air-flow control. These units are available in different capacities (5 KW, 10 KW and 15 KW), and have an in-built bearing lube oil circuit (which lubricates the main bearing assembly) and a control oil circuit (which helps in fan blade actuation through a hydraulic cylinder).

In the first attempt of its kind, a cross- functional team of L&T Howden – from Design & Engineering, Supply Chain, Planning, Internal Manufacturing and Field Engineering – joined hands to develop the system – right from 100% detailed engineering, procurement, production and testing through in-house resources.

The unit was assembled and tested at the A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex at Hazira in May.

With this new development, L&T Howden will now have a stronger control on project deliverables. Moreover, it is also in talks with its JV partner for developing oil units for domestic and international markets.
