LTEH’s Supply Chain Synergy Summit in Saudi Arabia brings together customers and business partners from across the globe To enhance collaboration and promote excellence in the supply chain domain for hydrocarbon EPC projects, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH) hosted the two-day Offshore Konnect – Supply Chain Synergy Summit 2023 in Saudi Arabia. Hosted on 23-24 May, the event was inaugurated by LTEH’s prestigious customer Saudi Aramco’s Sr VP Mr Abdulkarim A Al-Ghamdi and L&T’s Whole-time Director & Sr EVP (Energy) Mr Subramanian Sarma. Offshore Konnect brought together over 250 business partners and several notable customers of LTEH from across the globe. Industry leaders, senior management, and professionals from various organisations involved in offshore EPC projects were in attendance. The theme of the event was ‘The Power of Two – L&T and You’, emphasising the strong bond between L&T and all the stakeholders it works with. The summit presented a unique platform for dignitaries from over 175 companies to connect, share insights, and explore new avenues for collaboration on various aspects of supply chain. It focused on collaboration to achieve cost leadership, timely delivery, quality improvements, skill development, integrating sustainable practices, optimising resources and minimising the carbon footprint. Addressing the gathering, Mr Sarma highlighted the importance of connecting and engaging in successful collaboration to achieve project execution par excellence and customer delight. Mr Al-Ghamdi congratulated L&T for hosting the event and emphasised the need to enhance the use of project execution technologies, circular economy, localisation, and investments in carbon capture. Mr Parthasarathi Chatterjee (EVP & Head – LTEH, Offshore), Mr R Srivatsan (EVP – Strategies, LTEH) shared some valuable insights at the various panel discussions. Team Saudi Aramco and other attendees evinced much interest in the skill development infrastructure booth and the marine services booth that showcased L&T’s capabilities and futuristic initiative for projects under execution. L&T is helping out-of-Kingdom suppliers to set up facilities in Saudi Arabia. As part of the conference, MoUs for setting up such facilities were signed with Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS), Arrow Pipes and Fittings, Goodrich Gaskets (Flosil Group) and DBMSC Steel. To support Saudi Arabia’s localisation efforts and nation building projects, L&T has continuously upgraded its skill development infrastructure. L&T has offered its expertise in design, engineering, hi-tech manufacturing, fabrication, construction, and technology services to support partners in the vital areas of skill development, project management, process improvement, quality assurance, technology development and upgrade. The conference ended on a high note with extensive networking sessions, meaningful workshops and summary presentations laying the way forward for a more efficient supply chain to support sustainable and profitable growth.

L&T Heavy Engineering’s Technology Meet sees cross-pollination of ideas among industry stalwarts L&T Heavy Engineering (HE) organised its third Technology Meet in Delhi on 13 April, bringing together several industry leaders. The event focused on crucial topics such as 'Make in India', uninterrupted customer service support for plant operations during lockdowns, rapid technology disruptions leading to the need for urgent collaborative efforts with customers and academia in partnership mode, and the adoption of Industry 4.0. Mr Anil Parab (Whole-time Director & Sr EVP – HE & L&T Valves) set the context and interacted with key customers. Mr Sujoy Choudhury (Director, Planning & Business Development – IOCL) and Mr Harak C Banthia (CFO – HPCL Mittal Energy Ltd) were the guests of honour. Other dignitaries included delegates from L&T’s customers such as IOCL, Chambal Fertilisers, Honeywell, Engineers India Ltd, GAIL, Indian Farmers’ Fertiliser Cooperative, KBR, Technip, Kribhco, SRF, NLC, McDermott, Air Liquide, etc. Also present were representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas as well as key suppliers and delegates from the Ministries of Steel, Heavy Industries, Commerce and NITI Aayog. Heavy Engineering highlighted its contribution to the Prime Minister’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. It manufactures critical equipment such as vaporisers, acrylic acid reactors, advanced high-pressure breech lock heat exchangers, loop reactors and PTA oxidation reactors, which otherwise would have to be imported. Also, global technology leaders – such as BASF, Equate (SD), Chevron and UOP – have chosen L&T as a preferred supplier to implement their new technologies / significantly scaled designs not only in India but also overseas. Heavy Engineering has a track record of 100% success in all its first-of-its-kind endeavours, and has emerged as a global leader for hydrocracker, clean fuel & petrochemical tubular reactors. HE’s Modification, Revamp and Upgrade (MRU) team conducted an interactive session highlighting their offerings like coke drum repair and revamp, fertiliser revamp, heavy lift in compact footprints of plant as well as lumpsum turnkey revamp. The team emphasised that their services ensure 24x7 uninterrupted service for plant operations. L&T Special Steel & Heavy Forging (LTSSHF) shared information on the development of nuclear-grade forgings for 20 steam generators (700 MWe PHWR plants) – more importantly, with the lowest rejection rate anywhere in the world and without foreign collaboration. L&T Valves showcased a case study of first indigenisation of a high-speed pulse jet valve on the tube bundle header inside a pet- coke gasifier – a fine example of the fruits of partnership between L&T and one of the largest private refiners. The one-day Meet proved to be a useful platform for exchange of ideas and experiences on hi-tech manufacturing and associated services. It concluded with the continued assurance of fruitful collaborations to embolden the 'Make in India' brand.

L&T’s presence at G20 event affirms its focus on nuclear energy L&T Heavy Engineering marked its presence at the G20 international seminar on “The Role of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) in the Energy Transition” organised by NITI Aayog, the Department of Atomic Energy and NTPC on 16-17 May in Mumbai. The event brought together professionals from the nuclear power industry, public and private sector companies, regulatory bodies, international agencies and policymakers to deliberate upon key issues. The forum reinforced discussions on the way forward for enabling policy / regulatory framework and other challenges faced by the nuclear power sector with an aim to accelerate the deployment of SMRs. Mr Anil Parab (Whole-time Director and Sr EVP – L&T Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves) joined the panel discussion on Design Standardisation, Modularisation and Policy Intervention for accelerating Small Modular Nuclear Reactor technology towards contributing to the Government’s target of zero carbon emissions by 2070. The session was moderated by Dr V K Saraswat (Member – NITI Aayog). The other dignitaries on the panel were Dr Alexandre Volgini (Director of Projects – Rosatom Energy Projects JSC, Russia), Mr Vakisasai Ramany (Sr VP Development – EDF, France), Mr Amit Sharma (MD & CEO – Tata Consulting Engineering Ltd), Mr Gurdeep Singh (CMD – NTPC) along with Dr Nalin Shinghal (CMD – BHEL). “Global strong support and vision can become reality only if operators, regulators, technology players and suppliers own up to their responsibility jointly towards the common goal of viable nuclear power – otherwise it will remain just a shared dream,” Mr Parab said. Other L&T Heavy Engineering seniors who were in attendance included Mr Falgun Chokshi (EVP – Process Plant & Nuclear Equipment) and Mr Praveen Bhatt (VP & Head – Nuclear, Mfg Tech & Digi, Machine Shop, Maintenance & Plant Engineering).

The 5th batch of the Programme for Excellence in Project Delivery at IIM Indore
L&T’s project professionals get a boost from a training programme run in collaboration with IIM Indore In keeping with L&T’s strength as a knowledge powerhouse, L&T Institute of Project Management (IPM) commenced the 5th batch of its Programme for Excellence in Project Delivery (PEPD) at IIM Indore on May 8. The 5th batch consists of 23 Tier-1 participants from different L&T verticals such as Buildings & Factories, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon, Defence, Heavy Civil Infrastructure, Water & Effluent Treatment, Transportation Infrastructure, Minerals & Metals and Heavy Engineering. PEPD is part of IPM’s flagship Pragati Project Leadership Development Programme designed to develop project leadership across L&T verticals and at various levels. It encompasses four levels of career progression programmes, aligned to a competency-based framework comprising project management competencies and motivational fitness for project leaders. Spread over a year, PEPD comprises four modules, each involving five days of classroom interaction. The modules cover themes like project management overview and schedule management; project cost and finance management; supply chain and contract management; and construction, commissioning and close-out. It includes a simulation course on project management. In addition to this, assignments and a capstone project give the participants an opportunity to strengthen their fundamentals by reflecting on the key learnings/ideas from the modules for business/project application. There are also various inter-module engagements designed as part of the programme. These include completion of L&T ATL and Construction Industry Institute (CII) courses on business/financial acumen, analytical thinking, introduction to construction safety, design for construction safety, constructability, effective lessons learned and planning for start-up. On successful completion of PEPD, a joint certificate from L&T IPM and IIM Indore is awarded to the participants.

Two L&T businesses facilitate a major petrochemicals conference L&T Heavy Engineering and L&T Energy Hydrocarbon participated in the Asia Petrochemicals Industry Conference (APIC) 2023 as Gold Sponsors. The two-day conference was held in New Delhi on 18-19 May. APIC facilitates knowledge-sharing and serves as an excellent networking platform for global professionals interested in the Asian petrochemical industry and business. This year, APIC was hosted by Chemicals Petrochemicals Manufacturers’ Association (CPMA) and was supported by the Department of Chemical & Petrochemicals of India. Subsequently, Komatsu began manufacturing PC71 with indigenous components at its factory in Chennai. Robust and efficient, the hydraulic excavator incorporates the latest Komatsu technology to deliver a rugged boom and arm design. Almost every day brings a new story about someone losing lakhs through internet fraud. Rapid progress in technology and the increased use of the internet are immensely helpful – but this has also led to an alarming increase in the number of cybercrimes. To educate its customers and employees on cyber safety habits and alert them about the major frauds like phishing, vishing, UPI frauds, identity theft, skimming, etc., L&T Finance has recently unveiled a mascot – Sachet Kumar.
Sachet Kumar is that fictional friend who, through the campaign #JaankarBaniye SavdhaanRahiye, will educate people on fraud- related trends and motivate them to stay vigilant. The mascot encourages people to practise secured financial transactions, promote digitally safe habits and share tips to mitigate digital and other fraud attempts. In addition, he helps to keep everyone informed about the modus operandi of the fraudsters, who are getting more and more innovative by the day. According to the National Crime Reporting Bureau, the total number of cyber fraud cases in the country has increased by 84% in FY23 as compared to FY21.

The theme of the event held on 21 March was “Envisioning MSMEs for Bharat@100". L&T-SuFin’s Chief Executive Mr Bhadresh Pathak was present as the guest of honour at the Awards ceremony. Several other dignitaries, including Mr B B Swain (Secretary – Union MSME Ministry), graced the event. Mr Pathak made a presentation on “How L&T- SuFin is creating efficiencies in supply chain through digitisation for MSMEs".
