Glory in the Gulf
Glory in the Gulf
SOME OF L&T'S most prestigious projects in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have received the region’s top honours for project excellence at the MEED Projects Awards function held in Dubai on 16 December. Two of L&T Oman’s projects won the GCC’s most distinctive honour for project excellence.

The 400 kV Underground Cable and Over-Head Line (OHL) from 400 kV Sohar IPP-3 GS to 400 kV Sohar Free Zone GS projects commissioned by L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution arm bagged twin awards. The project was declared National Winner in the ‘Power Transmission Distribution & Substation’ category, as well as the GCC Winner.

This apart, L&T Transportation Infrastructure arm’s Dualisation of Al Sharqiyah Expressway brought L&T many accolades, including the MEED’s ‘National Winner’ award in the ‘Road Project of the Year’ category.

The MEED Projects Awards have become a stamp of quality for operators in the GCC projects sector. The awards recognise the value and quality of a project throughout its life cycle, from the design concept through engineering and construction, as well as its contribution to society and the environment.

The awards have a two-stage judging process that identifies the best projects at the national level and then selects an overall GCC winner for each category.

Making Waves
Making Waves
L&T TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (LTTS), an L&T subsidiary which offers a slew of cutting-edge ER&D services in a spectrum of areas, has lately been in the news for its many achievements. Here’s a snapshot.

>$100 Million Deal

LTTS has been selected by a global O&G major to be the primary engineering partner for two of their integrated refining and chemicals manufacturing facilities in the USA.

Under the five-year engagement, with the potential value of over $100 million, LTTS will provide multi-discipline plant engineering activities, including site sustenance, discipline engineering and control automation support for both facilities. LTTS will leverage its in-house digital engineering tools and new-age technology and solutions to optimise project execution and drive efficiency improvements for the customer.

The two sites covered under LTTS’ scope – which are currently among the top 10 biggest downstream sites in the USA – are integrated refining, chemical and polymer complexes.

DRiVTM Hub Dev Centre

In December, LTTS and Tenneco Inc’s DRiV™ Ride Performance Division inaugurated the DRiV HUB Development Center at the former’s Bangalore delivery center. It was virtually inaugurated by Mr Nik Endrud (Group VP & GM Ride Control, DRiV), Mr David Cue (VP Engineering Ride Performance, DRiV), and the LTTS leadership team.

LTTS’ engineers will create engineering tools to support DRiV in developing intelligent suspension technologies to build next-gen ride-control solutions. LTTS will deliver a wide range of engineering work across mechanical, CAE, data mining, KPI, and design automation.

The Hub provides a hybrid, unified engineering business model for supporting established domains such as mechanical, product lifecycle management (PLM), and digital engineering.  It also hosts a dedicated lab to perform testing and validation.

Awards & Accolades

LTTS recently swept up a number of awards and recognitions.

Company of the Year

LTTS was recognised as the ‘Company of the year - Best Medical Devices Equipment’ by CIMS Medica, a trusted healthcare knowledge source for over 40 years, for the low-cost three-part hematology analyzer built in partnership with Agappe Diagnostics. Fueled by F.R.U.G.A.L. innovation that will make healthcare accessible to millions, the device will revolutionise the diagnostics’ landscape.

Digital Enabler Award

Entrepreneur India awarded LTTS the Indian Digital Enabler Award 2020 in the ‘Best Technology for Healthcare’ category for the XYZ Synthesizer which enables the accurate inspection of thick, large specimens under an optical microscope.

It combines focus stacking and image stitching algorithms to seamlessly integrate tile scans and efficiently uses the optical and image characteristics to create a panoramic image for the inspection of such specimens.  It has the potential to revolutionise the methods and systems for extended depth-of-field calculations involving optical microscopic images.

BIG Innovation Awards

Two of LTTS’ digital solutions won the 2020 BIG Innovation Awards in the ‘Product’ category. Chest rAI, LTTS’ AI-based chest X-Ray analysis system, enables radiologists to improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosis by fast-triaging abnormalities in X-rays as well as annotating and generating automatic reports.

i-BEMS, LTTS’ proprietary building automation framework, operates as an enterprise IoT solution and unifies all campus operations under one system. It has been contextualised to suit the post-COVID scenario, and a new module – i-BEMS Shield – has been created for a safer workplace environment, with features such as automated temperature detection, monitoring of building air quality, and smart maintenance of social distancing norms.
