Energy conservation is a theme common to all L&T Businesses. No exceptions. As a key subset of the Group’s overall sustainability agenda, constituent firms have long been encouraged to adopt measures that can help lower their energy footprint by turning more efficient in terms of energy usage.
The sincerity of these efforts was confirmed recently when L&T Special Steels and Heavy Forgings (LTSSHF) a joint venture of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) won the National Energy Conservation Awards-2017 in the forging sector for superior energy management.
The award was conferred by Honourable President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind and Minister of State (I/C) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Mr. R. K. Singh at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on December 14, 2017 to celebrate the National Energy Conservation day.
Mr. Shailendra Roy, L&T Whole-Time Director & Sr. Executive Vice President (Power, Heavy Engg. & Nuclear) received the prestigious honour at the high-profile felicitation ceremony.
The win, LTSSHF’s second, exhibits the company’s commitment towards sustainability and environmental conservation. Efficient management of available energy resources has been one of the major thrust areas of LTSSHF which has undertaken numerous energy conservation initiatives through a well-defined energy policy and by setting stringent energy targets for improving energy performance and achieving benchmark energy efficiency.
LTSSHF has also adopted best in class practices and Energy Management Systems which include ISO: 50001 in the field of energy conservation.
Each year the Ministry of Power honours companies creating benchmarks in energy conservation. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) evaluates the energy consumption data and shortlists winners after an elaborate exercise.
