L&T makes its mark at an industry event
 
The International (IIW), in association with IIW India, organised  the 6th International Welding Congress (IC-2024) at Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre from 22 to 24 January.
 
Mr P Veeramuthuvel (Project Director, Chandrayan-3) was the Chief Guest. The Congress was attended by more than 400 delegates, including eminent researchers, academics, industry experts and representatives from India and abroad.
 
Over 150 Technical Papers were presented on the theme “Advancement through sustainable and green welding.”
 
Mr Anil V Parab (Whole-time Director & Sr EVP – Heavy Engineering and L&T Valves) delivered the Prof Jeager Memorial Lecture on “A perspective on sustainable and green welding”.
 
Speaking on L&T’s significant contribution to the field of Welding Technology, he apprised the audience of L&T Heavy Engineering’s concrete steps towards ensuring sustainable, green welding.
 
IIW honoured Mr Parab with the prestigious Prof Jeager Lecture Award, which is bestowed upon an eminent person from the field of welding. He dedicated the award to all L&T’s welding technologists and metallurgists for the decades of exemplary efforts which have made L&T and India proud.
 
Every year, IIW conducts the National Best Welder Competition for Women. The ‘Best Woman Welder’ award was presented to L&T’s Ms Nikisha Bhoi in the Best Pipe Welder (GTAW – Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) category. She competed with eight state-level women welders from various industries and training institutes across India. This award ensures Ms Bhoi’s place in the upcoming international-level competition. Mr Krishnaprakash Bhatt, another L&T employee, was honored with the “Best Welding Engineer” award at the same event.

Global body commends L&T's decade as a Corporate Learning Partner
 
The UK-headquartered National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) has honoured L&T for its decade- long association as a Corporate Learning Partner.
 
To mark the occasion, Mr Ian Cooke (Head - Corporate & Consumer Services, NEBOSH) presented a plaque to Mr Anil V Parab (Whole- time Director & Sr EVP - Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves) at the India Energy Conference in Goa on 6 February.
 
NEBOSH is a global organisation offering courses on health, safety and environment (HSE) to augment the competence of safety and environment professionals, as well as individuals, at the workplace. Its courses are highly respected by governments, employers and learners. Each year, tens of thousands of individuals from over 170 countries acquire a NEBOSH qualification through its network of over 450 learning partners.
 
The NEBOSH – International General Certificate (IGC) course is the most trusted health and safety qualification-of-its-kind. It is designed to impart the learners an all-encompassing training and knowledge that they must possess to make the workplace safer. Most international clients make this certification mandatory.
 
L&T makes enormous investment in the professional development of its people and works towards identifying qualifications and courses that have an impact on both the individual and the Company. By acquiring the IGC qualification, L&T employees can become HSE change-agents at their respective workplaces.
 
L&T also facilitates the NEBOSH Incident Investigation Certificate (INV1) course. This course enables line managers and HSE staffers to independently investigate incidents, produce action plans to prevent recurrence, and in turn, embolden L&T’s safety culture. The one-day programme is conducted at some business location and involves practical assessment.
 
Over these years, NEBOSH has certified 537 L&T employees for IGC and 60 for INV1. To enhance the performance of the learners, L&T’s Corporate HR complements them with ATL courses like mock tests, quizzes, formative assessments, orientation sessions, revision class, and tutors meet.

L&T gives NIT Trichy students a peek into cutting-edge technologies
 
As part of its campus outreach programme, L&T played sponsor to the National Institute  of Technology, Tiruchirappalli’s (NIT   Trichy) annual techno-managerial festival – Pragyan – hosted from 22-25 February.
 
Pragyan has been at the forefront of showcasing technological advancements and fostering innovation for two decades. This year’s theme, ‘Chronicle’, encapsulated the journey through time, exploring the past, understanding the present, and envisioning the future of technological evolution.
 
Mr Laxmesh B H (VP & Head – Missiles & Aerospace, L&T), along with Dr G Aghila (Director – NIT Trichy), inaugurated the four-day fest that witnessed a footfall of over 12,000 students from engineering colleges across the region.
 
In his insightful tech-talk on “The Past, Present & Future of Technology in India – An L&T Engineer’s Perspective”, Mr Laxmesh offered a unique outlook on the trajectory of technology.
 
Mr Lakshmi Narayanan S (Head – Robotics, Buildings & Factories, L&T) spoke on cutting- edge technologies and threw light on the use of 3D printing in construction.
 
At the interactive booth set up by L&T, the students got an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and valuable insights into the Company’s latest technological advancements and businesses.
 
Teams from L&T engaged with the budding engineering minds, offering insights into the evolution of technologies, with a special emphasis on new-age advancements.

The students also participated in a cyclothon organised to spread cancer awareness.

L&T businesses showcased their clean energy capabilities at India Energy Week
 
The L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH), Power & Green EPC – along with L&T Heavy Engineering (HE), L&T Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) and L&T Valves – participated in the four-day India Energy Week (IEW) 2024. It was the second edition of IEW, hosted at ONGC’s Institute of Petroleum Safety, Health & Environment Management in Goa, from 6-9 February.

Inaugurating the industrial expo, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi underscored the unprecedented investment in the energy sector and highlighted its global significance, stressing on India’s commitment to collaboration on energy solutions. The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs Mr Hardeep Singh Puri was also present.
 
Hosted under the patronage of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, IEW 2024 provided a platform for fostering collaboration. The L&T businesses showcased their diverse product portfolio, marquee projects and milestone accomplishments.
 
Displaying the capabilities in cleaner energy, LTEH exhibited its offshore wind business model, including high-voltage direct-current substations, alternating current substations, floaters, jacks with suction piles and so on. L&T Electrolysers Ltd demonstrated its electrolyser stack model. L&T Valves displayed its cryogenic range for LNG and hydrogen projects.
 
The event was attended by several senior L&T leaders – including Mr Anil V Parab (Whole-time Director & Sr EVP – Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves), Mr Parthasarathi Chatterjee (EVP & Head – LTEH, Offshore), Mr Falgun Chokshi (EVP – Process Plant & Nuclear Equipment, HE), Mr Kaustuv Bagchi (VP & Head – LTEH, Offshore Wind Farm), Mr Anupam Ghosal (VP & Head – MRU & Special Fabrication Unit, HE), Mr Siddharth Gupta (Chief Executive – L&T Electrolysers Ltd) and Mr Suman Bakshi (GM & Head – Domestic Marketing, HE).
 
Mr Chatterjee was part of a panel discussion, wherein he shared valuable insights on ‘how to build and manage a resilient supply chain in times of economic uncertainty’.
 
IEW 2024 provided an opportunity for the L&T team to connect with industry leaders across the globe and catch a glimpse of the emerging trends in the energy landscape.

L&T Finance made a mark at the ET Now Global Business Summit 2024 as the NBFC Fintech Partner. Hosted in New Delhi from 9-10 February, the summit was graced by Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi,  several  of  his Cabinet colleagues, and several noted business leaders.
 
L&T Finance MD & CEO Mr Sudipta Roy was part of an exclusive CXO roundtable titled ‘FutureFinance 5.0: Quantum Leap to a $5 Trillion Economy’ hosted at the summit. The power-packed panel included notable figures such as Ms Deeksha Kaushal (Director – Financial Services and Banking Partnerships, Google Pay India), Mr Himanshu Chakrawarti (CEO – Snapdeal), and Mr Rajesh Chopra (SVP & Head – Advisors South Asia, Mastercard).
 
Moderated by Mr Vivek Belgavi (Partner and Leader – Fintech, PwC India), the panel discussed key innovations and developments in the financial services space – specifically in the credit and lending domains.
 
 
Green to Greener
L&T Finance has moved a step higher and have achieved the CDP score of ‘A-’ in the ‘Leadership’ band. So far this is the company’s highest ever CDP score and is a marked improvement from its previous score of ‘B’ in ‘Management’ band.
 
CDP score is a snapshot of a company’s environmental disclosure and performance. L&T Finance is amongst the 17% companies that have reached this ‘Leadership’ level. The rating is higher than both the Asia regional average of ‘C’ and the specialised professional services sector average of ‘C’.
 
CDP is a not-for-profit global rating agency that runs a carbon footprint disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to help them manage and measure their environmental impacts. CDP ratings are looked upon as the gold standard for environmental reporting, with the richest and most comprehensive dataset on corporate action.
 
L&T Finance has been reporting its carbon disclosure to the CDP since 2020.

Pursuit of Precision
A contest for service engineers underscores the importance of customer satisfaction.
 
Starting in L&T Construction & Mining Machinery has been organising the Advanced Technic Contest (ATC) for service engineers. A brainchild of Komatsu, ATC is held every four years.
 
The latest edition of ATC commenced in March 2023, with 517 dealer engineers appearing for a Skill Inventory Test, encompassing an online test, subjective assessments, and a practical test on machine/workshop. In all, 125 contestants qualified.
 
Next, at the zonal level ATC held in September, 21 contenders made it to the finals. Four deserving candidates, who had missed an entry by narrow margins, were also provided a chance to compete in the finals.
 
At the finals on 13 February, these dealer engineers competed for the ‘All India Winner’ title. The finals were hosted at the Central Training Centre at Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.
 
Congratulating the finalists, Mr Y Fujii (MD – Komatsu India) advised them to continue to improve their skill sets and impart training to young colleagues so to take the business to a higher level.
 
Mr Arvind K Garg (SVP & Head – L&T Construction and Mining Machinery) praised the dedication and skill of the top service engineers. Emphasising on the significance of self-improvement and teamwork in enhancing customer satisfaction, he highlighted everyone’s role in the Company’s success.

Here's a round-up of recent major happenings involving L&T's Hyderabad Metro
 
Mr D K Sen (Advisor to the L&T CMD) delivered the opening address at a Knowledge Conclave hosted by the Bengal Chamber in Bhubaneswar on 18 January. The event was titled “New Age Infrastructure: Knowledge Conclave - Transforming India with Innovative Infrastructure Solutions.”
 
The CFO of L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd(L&TMRHL), Mr Rahul Nilosey, also graced the conclave and moderated a session on “InvIT: A game changer in Infra Financing”.
 
Then, Mr K V B Reddy (MD & CEO – L&TMRHL) appeared as a key panellist at a business roundtable hosted by The Economic Times in Bengaluru on 19 January. The roundtable, organised in association with WhatsApp, discussed ‘The Future of Public Transport: Smart Mobility.’
 
The Society to Save Rocks organised a Rock Exhibition at Ameerpet metro station in Hyderabad from 5-7 February. The exhibition was curated by renowned photographer Mr Ashok Kumar Vootla.
 
The exhibition featured photographs of spectacular ancient granite formations of the Deccan Plateau, a natural wonder of stony ridges and hillocks shaped by nature into picturesque delicately balanced configurations.

L&T Finance (LTF) bestowed its prestigious ‘Star Awards 2024’ on 320 employees in recognition of their outstanding contributions during the previous year.
 
These coveted awards were conferred at a splendid ceremony at AMN Tower in Mumbai on 9 March. The ceremony was live-streamed across LTF’s regional, zonal and head offices.
 
The event was graced by L&T CMD Mr S N Subrahmanyan, who also happens to be the Chairperson & Director of LTF, Mr Sudipta Roy (MD & CEO – LTF), LTF Directors, including Mr P V Bhide, Mr Thomas Mathew, Dr R Seetharaman and members of the Group Executive Council.
 
The Star Awards are conferred in four categories viz. Bright Spark, Exemplar of Values, Teamwork and Transformation Champion.
 
The event also witnessed the launch of LTF’s new sonic brand identity, which will now be part of its core communications and integrated marketing campaigns across all phygital touchpoints.
 
 
STRATEGISING @ SINGHBHUM
 
L&T-SuFin – a leading integrated B2B platform for buying and selling industrial products and services – conducts knowledge-exchange sessions in association with local trade chambers around the country.
 
On 13 February, it conducted an exclusive knowledge exchange session for the former’s promoter members in Jamshedpur in Jharkhand in association with the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI).
 
The session was attended by SCCI President Mr Vijay Anand Moonka, key dignitaries and over 70 MSME members of the Chamber who evinced deep interest in the possibilities of the SuFin platform.
 
Mr Vivek Chauhan (Chief Commercial Officer – L&T-SuFin) addressed the audience on “Creating Efficiencies in Supply Chain Through Digitisation for MSMEs".

L&T's nuclear power business gets a fillip from joining hands with a global major
 
L&T Heavy Engineering (HE) has qualified for Westinghouse  Electric Company’s Approved Supplier List (ASL). Westinghouse’s senior management team handed over the ASL certificate to the HE team at the AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex (AMNHEC) in Hazira, Surat, India on January 8.
 
Mr Pavan Pattada (EVP, Global Operations Services), Mr Luca Oriani (Global Chief Engineering Services Officer, and SVP of Engineering Services) and Dr Alok Misra (Director, India) represented Westinghouse. L&T was represented by Mr Anil V Parab (Whole-time Director & Sr EVP – Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves), Mr Falgun Chokshi (EVP – Process Plant & Nuclear Equipment) and Mr Praveen Bhatt (VP & Head – Nuclear Equipment) and the Nuclear team.
 
Further, on 23 February, an MoU was signed between Westinghouse LLC and L&T Heavy Engineering which will see HE’s manufacturing capabilities enhance Westinghouse’s growing nuclear business for the nuclear fleet and new builds across global market. This MoU was signed by Mr Raj Bhan (SVP and Chief Procurement Officer – Westinghouse) and L&T’s Mr Chokshi.
 
Westinghouse is the world’s leading supplier of safe, innovative nuclear technology. With these MoUs, L&T is expected to play an important role in the global nuclear industry, given its impressive track record.
