    Platinum for Green
L&T’s Buildings & Factories (B&F) arm has added yet another feather to its cap! The Ford Global Technology & Business Centre in Chennai, constructed by B&F, has been awarded the prestigious Platinum rating for a green building by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

A green building is one that uses less water, optimises energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants, as compared to a conventional building. With this rating, the 2.6 million square feet high-rise in Chennai, which serves as Ford Motor’s product development hub for the Asia-Pacific region, has become India’s largest Platinum-rated green building in the office-cum-research park category.

To achieve this, the B&F project team walked the extra mile, earning 84 points (Platinum > 76) in IGBC’s Green rating system for new construction. This latest benchmark enables B&F prequalify for larger and more significant contracts, while reinforcing L&T’s design-and-build capability for high-end sustainable buildings. The project team, headed by Project Director Mr A T Lakshmanan, and Engineering Design and Research Centre (EDRC) IGBC Coordinator Dr S Rajkumar, worked in tandem from the early stages of the project ensuring proper documentation and subsequent submission to IGBC.On behalf of Ford Motor, Mr Eric Grubb applauded the achievement of the B&F team.
