The 6th edition of Engineers Conclave conducted by Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) was held at L&T’s Leadership Development Academy (LDA) in Lonavla. Hosted jointly by INAE and L&T the event explored two central themes of national relevance viz., “Defence Manufacturing in Industry” and “Engineering Challenges in Urban Infrastructure”.
Spread over three days (Oct 4th - 6th) the event witnessed a gathering of senior professionals from the industry, members of the academia and high-ranking officials from the government. Dignitaries including Raksha Rajya Mantri Dr. Subhash Bhamre, Secretary Defence Production Dr. Ajay Kumar and Secretary Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr. G Sateesh Reddy, Director IIT Bombay Dr. Devang Khakkar, and INAE President Dr. B.N. Suresh attended the event. From L&T Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, CEO & MD, and Mr. J.D. Patil, Whole-time Director and Senior Executive Vice President, L&T Defence graced the event along with several other senior L&T-ites in tow.
The objective of the Engineers Conclave was to provide a platform for engineers from allied fields to deliberate and recommend right engineering solutions for identified issues of national importance. As the country’s leading engineering firm deeply invested in India’s Urban Infrastructure Development and Defence Manufacturing it was rather fitting that the conclave this year had found home in L&T.
Speaking on the inaugural day, Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, CEO & MD, and Conference Chair, expressed his pleasure at L&T playing host to the Engineers Conclave 2018. He said, “Our organisation has been at the forefront of contributing to the creation of national infrastructure using technology to drive scale, speed and quality. In the domain of Defence Manufacturing we lead the Private Sector Defence Industry by creating new products and systems from our nine Defence facilities.”
The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), founded in 1987, has as its Fellows leading engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines. INAE has been hosting the Engineers Conclave since 2013 jointly with either DRDO, DOS, DAE or CSIR. Each Conclave has two themes which address national and social issues where engineering intervention is desired. This is the first year in which the Conference was co-hosted with an industry player.
